Marylebone AreaBaker Street integrating the medieval village of Marylebone has London's most superior Georgian houses.  Urbanized by Robert Harley, Earl of Oxford, Terraces by John Nash are a sight to behold near Regents Park

The village of Marylebone was made of just a handful of houses situated near current Marylebone High Street. It was during the early eighteenth century that the landowners began to develop the area and this area still remains today, looked after by the Howard Walden Estate. Most of the streets and squares had names from the landowners' families, such as Harley, Portland and Wimpole.

Today Marylebone also known as Baker Street  is a extensive  place, but remains  underrated, even though it has many famous landmarks and institutions, these include the London Business School , the Royal Academy of Music, Sherlock Holmes Museum,  Madame Tussaud's wax museum, and the  London Planetarium.

Marylebone AreaMarylebone did not become part of London until well into the 18th Century. For years it has been known by Londoners as a pretty village lying on the way to Primrose Hill. A village which had Parish Church and a Manor which was once a royal palace with a hunting lodge, and a park. This later became delightful gardens - Marylebone Gardens.  Its change came in the late Georgian and Regency years.

In the late 18th Century the area became London’s newest and most fashionable centre, consisting of upper-class rich. Affluent residential developments and artistic pursuit increased in the 19th century by the formation of Regent's Park, with its impressive villas and terrace houses. It became the place of aristocrats, the distinguished and diplomats.

The area’s streets and squares have been mentioned and used   by writers and artists of the Nineteenth Century. Some of the residents of the era included Dickens, Thackeray, and Disraeli. Another notable resident was Napoleon who lived here in exile.
